Position: Staff Accountant
Summary: Performs accounting support tasks within accepted accounting principles and practices. The position is responsible for integrating the Olson & Olson Ltd mission statement ideal into the fabric of job duties and actively and positively demonstrating the stated core values that are part of the Olson & Olson Ltd overall culture.
Salary: Salary Range: $50,000 - $70,000 annual (Non-Exempt)

Duties: Essential Functions
-Demonstrate Core Values in all aspects of duties and responsibilities
-Receivables, payables, and/or general ledger duties such as preparing monthly statements, periodic statements, listing and checking details.
-Reconciliation of Company’s trial balance and general ledger.
-Adjusting billing errors for premium and commission discrepancies.
-Deposit daily cash receipts to appropriate bank accounts according to Company policy. Record deposits into computer system including, but not limited to, agency-billed items, direct billed items and miscellaneous income.
-Prepare and issue checks on appropriate dates, according to Company’s payment policy.
-Verify accuracy of invoices, check requests and expense reports including, but not limited to appropriate approval for payment.
-Regularly perform reconciliation on all bank accounts between the general ledger, bank statement and cash book.
-Prepare and record journal entries as needed for adjustments to general ledger accounts.
-Reconcile cash disbursements registers for month-end closings.
-Prepare payroll and tax reports.
-Organize and process scanning and paperless filing activities.
-Monitor, maintain, and process the agency’s appointment with various carriers as directed by Controller.
-Assist administrative staff as needed.
-Perform office work directly related to the general business operations of Olson & Olson Ltd.
-Exercise discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance; evaluate and compare possible courses of action and make decisions or recommendations after considering various possibilities.
Qualifications: High school graduate with at least an associate’s degree is preferred, with three plus years previous experience. Previous insurance accounting experience a plus. Adeptness at using calculator and spreadsheet software applications such as Microsoft Excel.
-Frequently work at a fast pace with unscheduled interruptions.
-Frequently sit for long periods of time.
-This is a public contact position that requires appropriate business apparel.
-Responsibilities may include travel to local client and carrier locations during the work date
-Candidate must have insured vehicle and be legally eligible to drive to a local location
-Must maintain applicable insurance licenses
-Stay updated on changes and enhancements of various systems used by the agency for maximum performance and efficiencies.
